We read this statement together before every group discussion! It helps transition the group to discussion time, it reaffirms our highest values, and sets a tone of trust, consistency, and safety for everyone in the group.


We are a group of imperfect people pursuing a perfect God. We exist to help each other find and follow Christ. These are some things we want to be true of our group:

  • We create a safe and honest environment, staying transparent and authentic.
  • We keep it inside the circle. Confidentiality is necessary for a healthy group.
  • We look together to the Bible for help and guidance, and keep out our own politics, sales, or agendas.
  • We do not try to fix each other, preach sermons, or give unsolicited advice. We instead encourage, listen to, and celebrate each other.
  • We handle conflict between us quickly and honestly by going to the person, owning our part, and practicing forgiveness.
  • We respect each others’ time by starting and ending when we say we will.
  • We trust that it is God’s role to change people, not ours.
  • We believe that in Jesus Christ, there is hope for everyone.

Read Ephesians 3:14-21 together. 
14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

  • How have the steps of faith you've taken in life, when you've decided to trust God in the midst of something unknown, helped you grasp more of the love of God?

  • What gets in the way of expressing thankfulness in your life? When you are living with expressed thankfulness, what changes about your attitude toward life?
     
  • We don't only give FROM a Rooted place and TO a new building... we give FOR a reason: and that reason is people. What people do you think about when you give? What people in your life do you want to see find and follow Jesus?
     
  • What financial decisions have you regretted in life? What spending decisions do you expect to change by proactively giving over the next two years change your potential spending decisions?
     
  • What makes you nervous as you think about making a two-year commitment to generosity for Rooted? What do you expect will change in you or about you throughout this process? 

EXPERIENCE

  • Start thinking more specifically about the people that you want to find hope in Jesus. Figure out how to take one step toward one of those people this week; invite them to Easter at Mission, have them over for dinner, just check in to see how they are, or find a random and fun way to brighten their day!

Colossians 2:6-7
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Thankfulness is the tangible expression of being rooted in Jesus.
